Analysis of the match between KRC Genk and Royal Antwerp FC
In the European qualification playoff group reserved for teams finishing from 7th to 12th in the Belgian Pro League, Genk and Antwerp are showing two completely opposite pictures. Genk currently sit at the top with 34 points and hold a significant advantage in the race, while Antwerp have almost lost all hope of competing after collecting only 27 points following a series of disappointing results.
Even so, Genk’s recent form has not been entirely convincing. Their draw against Standard Liege in the latest round means they have managed just one win in their last five matches, alongside three draws and one defeat. However, their home form remains a major source of confidence, as Genk are unbeaten in seven consecutive home games, recording four wins and three draws.
Of course, Genk still have reasons to be cautious because they failed to beat Antwerp in their last two home meetings, with one draw and one loss. Nevertheless, the biggest difference between the two teams right now lies in motivation.
Antwerp appear to have little left to fight for, and that attitude has been reflected in their recent performances. The team are currently on a three-match losing streak, most recently suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat against Leuven. Looking at the bigger picture, Antwerp have lost six of their last nine matches — statistics that clearly show a decline in both morale and form.
